I'm not for mandatory firearm training, but I am for encouraging gun owners to get trained, and for encouraging organizations to offer it, maybe even make it worth school credit for high schoolers.

Measures I agreed with:
1. Mandatory waiting periods. This is a reasonable limitation, because it has been proven to reduce gun use in crimes of passion, and it really doesn't infringe your right to defend yourself in a real way.
2. Mandatory firearms training. Guns are dangerous. People need to be trained on their use before exercising their right to bare arms. Again, a pretty reasonable limitation, IMO.
3. Age restrictions. Kids don't have the mental capacity to drive cars, vote, enter contracts, etc. They shouldn't, therefore, be allowed to buy firearms.
4. Mental health restrictions. It just makes sense.
5. Criminal record restrictions. I think this should only be applied to convicts guilty of violent crime.
6. Ending War on Drugs. The biggest contributor to urban violence, in a time when violence is on a downward spiral. When it ends, our streets will become alot safer.

I'm behind ending the WoD thing. We've already got age restrictions and felon restrictions.

I'm for:
Mental health restrictions
Criminal record restrictions
Ending War on Drugs
Haven't made up my mind on banning guns by class and/or age restrictions yet.

Okay.
So what I'm getting from this so far is that most people would agree that the right to bare arms should be restricted based upon evaluating a persons past, and their ability to think rationally (i.e. being sane).
Is there anyone who disagrees with restricting gun ownership for the mentally ill or those convicted of a violent crime?
