I doubt that men are going to do anything more to save a woman's life than they would for a man. What, are they going to jump on a grenade twice?
This decision will be like allowing blacks to serve in the military. A whole lot of hoopla and experiementation with integrated units. Careful tracking of metrics.
Then, 20 years from now, someone will say, "Wait, wasn't this whole thing supposed to be a bad idea? Has anyone even noticed the slightest bit of difference in unit effectiveness?" And, everyone will realize that it was a non-issue.
Talking from the military side. Obviously, from an equal opportunity side, it is now and will forever be a big deal.

i'm not in the military but a lot of my family is or has been recently. none of them have ever thought it was anything other than a bad idea, including the women who were in the military
and i still don't think we can undo millions of years of adaptation aka evolution by forcing a change.
there are other problems. women throw roughly 40% as far as men can throw. horseshoes and hand grenades, as they say, is good enough for almost. but 40% of the distance isn't almost, it's actually almost close to you (i read it's something like 45% of female marines can throw a hand grenade a safe distance from themselves, but to be honest, i can't find an ultimate source when googling that). it's also indicative of other issues though beyond just that. combat today has body armor reminiscent of crusaders. weighty bulletproof gear plus weighty arms and other equipment... it all adds up. so long as women are required to meet the same requirements as men this wouldn't be a problem...
but...
they are currently not held to the same standards

It's about time. Should have been done a long time ago.

I think I would like to see all female combat units first, see how it goes, then integrate from there.

Have you guys seen the movie Red Tails yet? It's worth watching.
