You might as well claim it wasn't sexism that prevented women being the vote ( 95 years ago today, as it happens), but that there wasn't a cultural tradition of women being anything except chattels with brains unable to comprehend anything more complicated than deciding which hat to wear.

That kind of reasoning doesn't stand up to scrutiny these days, however much it may have done in the past. We know better than to cling onto outdated standards and ideas, or at least we should do - especially if we're in government.

I don't respect any MP who abuse their position by attempting to impose their own personal standards on the rest of us and having the cheek to call it democracy.
