I suspect it has more to do with giving Obama more political ammo to raise taxes to prevent a catastrophe when sequestration kicks in March 1st.

The MIC is always singing this tune. The truth is we need to dismantle our standing military, forget about controlling the entire world, and concentrate on becoming an excellent place for our people to live productive, fulfilling lives.

We've entangled ourselves in a net of disastrous consequences in the post war era and it's because we've been on the same fool's errand that has been destroying great cultures since the days of Alexander the Great.

The United States has the 2 strongest armed forces of all time (military, heavily armed population), enough explosive power to end human life on this planet many times over, enough bio/chem weapons to end life on this planet many times over, a myriad of secret weapons, robots on land/air/space with no one to use it on but the projected fear on the public conscious (ZOMG! brown bearded guy!)

Cuts are in order.

Why?

You will never face a conventional military attack again. If you didn't notice, you have roughly 6000 nuclear weapons, and the capability of delivering them anywhere in the world.

Furthermore, the biggest threat you face actually spawned from your military interventionism, which spawned in part from the need to feed the military-industrial beast.

You should keep your standing army, but probably reduce it's size by 90%.
