The NYT article refers to a comedian who bought Twitter followers just to get booked for a gig.

Maybe he was bad at comedy because he was obsessed with math?

I’m on twitter and I get 3-4 fake people a day following me. I just block them. If you are the Pres, then its not worth your time blocking all the fake ones.

This is true of all the major politicians. Gincrich had like double the amount of followers in one day or something crazy. Mitt has a ton of fake ones as well.

If you tweet a lot, you get spam bots on it like crazy. Someone like Obama in the millions would take way too much time banning them all. Go look up anyone with a lot (celebrities) and look at their followers. Tons of spammers.

Do you think Obama cares or Romney for that matter with the fake followers? they probably get loads of requests per day and its just easier to accept them all then to screen them.

it's not even them who runs, it's their interns. Obama's actual tweets are signed "BO", IIRC, otherwise it is someone else. And you have to go out of your way to ban someone on twitter. It's not like a friend request. You can just follow someone any time.
