the debt hasn't been decreasing though and hasn't since the 94 republican takeover and we are spedily increasing the debt levels to ratios not seen since world war ii.
speaking of world war ii, i do agree defense should be pared down significantly. we have 50K troops in germany and 50K in japan and another 10k in italy because of their past belligerence but we should let them be. let europe defend europe; we should stop subsidizing their defense. of course, the military is made up of people too, and reduction in spending will lead to a lot of people losing their jobs, but unlike social programs at least the us is getting something from return out of the people other than a decrease in available oxygen. still, it needs to be curtailed.
if there was something in the middle that wasn't so great in the benefit reductions and had defense reductions would you buy it then? or because some republican put it forth do you just object automatically? (both of you)

bit of a side-track but still related...how is this guy even viable as a major policy player? he has never had any experience outside of politics at all:
