The lenders should feel lucky if they just got the principal repaid, let alone any intrest.

Putting the lenders aside, students should not be having to take out that much in loans in the first place. I pay a little over $1000 a month for my student loans. Now, that was because of private school tuition so I knew what I was getting into. Though, for state schools where we pay taxes, it shouldn't be an issue.
