Would that include drinks sweetened with the fake crap?

If I buy a drink with double the syrup I'd be effectively taxed less right?
If I buy a 32oz drink in which 31oz is water, I'd pay $0.32 in taxes. If instead I drink 32oz of syrup, is still only pay $0.32 in taxes. Give me some sugar.

I hear ya Foadi! Nothing like working a bill that you hope passes, just so that you can exploit the consequences to your personal advantage.
Being serious, too.

wow, a cent an oz seems pretty high to me. I mean if you get one of those super big gulps that are 64 ounces for a buck or whatever it is, that'd be 64 cents in tax. Surely someone is making a profit from that and its not just to battle obesity...

I'd rather we end the HFCS subsidies first before taxing sodas.

If California wants to raise tax revenue it should place a higher tax rate on CA Lottery, but make ticket purchases tax deductible. The tax deductibility will encourage more people to buy tickets thus generating a higher jackpot quicker thus getting even more people to buy it. The increased tax rate will not discourage buyers.

That is a terrible idea. The lottery is one of the worst things we have; it's a money sink for poor people.
We shouldn't subsidize the lottery, we should abolish it. But this is for another thread.

It's tax revenue that is completely voluntary. It brings joy to the players and generate tax revenue.
