The thing I don't get is how we have an obesity epidemic and Hispanic migrant labor, but this is still happening.
Specialization of labor and urban industrialization for the win.

Tough business to be in, lots of em don't make it especially if they have to incur a pile of debt to get going. Sad stories but tough, that's life. IMO the commodity subsidization program in this country has done more harm than good by keeping prices artificially low which hurts producers in the long run and creates an overabundance of certain crops which then go to cheap cattle feed and ethanol... a complete waste.
Fruits and veggies manage to get on my table w/o anywhere near the subsidies of the cattle/grain industry receive, I suspect if the subsidies went away I'd still have their products available.
