Why does the gop focus so much of its energy on cutting stuff like this? I mean sure it would be fine if they were actually cutting evetything across the board, but it seems like their only interested in cutting things like food stsmps, planned parenthood, pbs, etc.

I agree, the GOP should do more to cut a whole lot of other stuff like subsidies, foreign aid and start downsizing Federal and state gubmints but you take what you can get.

It won't get passed, obviously, but I can at least understand the desire to do something about food stamps.

Just cutting the dollar figure isn't a great way to go though. Its just an insignificant slap in the face that does nothing but hurt people.

Actually reform how the system works, so people can't buy Red Bull, Coke, and twinkies with it. As it is now its just making people fat and sick.

Hell, just eliminating the eligibility of any beverages other than water and non-HFCS fruit juices would be a tremendous help.

Until the GOP is serious about making cuts ACROSS THE BOARD, and not just aiming at certain social programs, it's just all hot air and hypocrisy on the GOP's part.

If someone is a TRUE fiscal conservative you push for cuts across the board, you demand cuts from everywhere. You don't pick and choose and only target programs and agencies you don't agree with and mostly cut poor and middle class programs..

As a middle class American the GOP can go to hell..

Spider has the right idea. Giving people money for food is stupid. Giving them money for very particular types of food makes way more sense. Allow those who receive money to use it only for particular foodstuffs: fruits, vegetables, bread, nuts, meat, dairy... and that's it.

Comrade is right about that never being allowed, though.
