Well I think the neutrality aspect is a good point and it brings home Hersh's assertion in that now that the majority of liberals have been able to help get a minority, left leaning president in power they are now essentially powerless to make any kinds of waves against his more questionable policies lest they feel that there may be a counter reformation and undo all that they had (in their feelings) helped to achieve. But in the end that kind of attitude is doing more harm then good because it makes the reactionary elements of the political system even more uncompromising and that is when democracy starts to fail- because our democratic system is built on compromise so when you polarize both sides to the point where that isnt being done then its all downhill from then on.
