What can we possibly learn for the Brits and Germans? France? Oh yeah, we can learn their secrets on French cooking and French desserts.. But the Brits? Nada. And the German? We already know how to make strudel.

Even weirder: Brazil?

Spying on American's within US borders? Over the line.

Reading French/British/Brazilian/etc. e-mails and text messages, and listening to their phone calls? Ummm - that's what I am EXPECTING our NSA to do.

Anyone remember Clear and Present Danger? "The machine is still on, Moira." Citizens in other countries should have no expectation of privacy from the US spy program. Just as I feel that Russia/China/etc. are probably (or are trying) to do the same to us. It's international espionage.

Does it look bad? Sure. But, this is one of those programs that will go on until something is leaked. Then the US will make apologies. And, we'll keep doing it. And, I expect that every other country will, also.

I highly doubt there are enough Muslims in France to generate 70 million calls in 30 days. Although I looked it up and France has 5MM Muslims, so I guess it's possible.

That said, then how are we figuring out who's Muslim and who's not as we tap these calls?

One of the articles said that they recorded any calls to/from specific numbers. So, I'm assuming that they have identified possible terrorist sympathizers, and are tapping their calls.

Here's what else I find odd: OBL and AQ figured out back before 9/11 that using cell/satellite phones was a bad idea--which is why OBL didn't even have a computer or land line at his Pakistani home.

So... everybody forgot that, and is just chatting away, planning the next 9/11?
