I see absolutely no benefit to the US of involving itself or spending a dime to assist the rebels. What guarantees have we about the legitimacy of the rebel government? Indeed, human rights groups have accused both sides of committing war crimes. a recent incident involved some rebels beheading a POW. delightful.

Besides the only way control could be exercised over their political systems would be to set up a 'government in exile' then invade and occupy the country.

I suppose that's not an option that people are open to?

If the idea that the international community is bound by law to intervene when a nation commits atrocities against its own people, where but syria?

America faces massive problems at home, we need to pull our troops out everywhere and stop intervening in these conflicts- let them sort it out on their own. Let them kill each other off, who cares.
