What does Germany have to gain from it? Snowden going "yea, the US spied on you." (?)

Has the US publicly claimed that they will detain Snowden should he fall into their clutches?

I would be very concerned about traveling to Germany if I were Snowden. I'd be surprised if Germany did not already know about the spying, with the exception of perhaps Merkel's phone. The outrage of Germany's lawmakers is mostly an act.

Everytime I see this story I am amazed how far the government will go to make sure that noone knows what it is doing, and it makes me ponder a very important question:
Can you have a democracy if people are prevented from knowing what their representatives are doing ?

The idea that a technological superpower such as Germany didn't know anything about being spied on by another technological superpower is pretty much ludicrous. The idea that Snowden is of some unknown value to them is moronic. If he goes to Germany, his fate will be determined by how much the US wants him... because Germany certainly couldn't give a f**k...

At any rate I don't think they would hesitate to trade him if they found it useful. Germany is probably one of the last places I would go if I were him.
Of course he may know something about the US relationship with Germany that we don't.
