It could certainly be a part. You have a bunch of self-hating bigots telling children the world is dangerous and full of bad people, and discouraging access to education and/or interests.

I think the common denominator, once again, is religion. We need to stop religion. All of it.

There is nothing wrong with religion. The problem is the people that take it overboard. I can understand where this guy is coming from and agree with parts of his message, but I think his delivery method is off.
