Assad's strategy had been genius. His agents tell him which rebel forces are moderate and which are extremists. He always "lose" against the extremists for a while before taking the town back so the citizens know what it's like if the rebels win. He always fight hard against the moderates though.

Well since the hardcore Islamists are the best fighting force the rebels had then thats a good strategy.

All this kind of proves my point about Americans. Seems more and more are like me, worried about what happens at home versus some civil war in another country that doesn't affect us.

Assad used chemical weapons? Outrage! Incredulity! He must be stopped! Retaliation!

Wait, what? A few thousand people are going to lose their current insurance plans which will be replaced with slightly more expensive but better insurance plans? Outrage! Incredulity! Repeal/replace!
