...so I was thinking the other day that I'm really lazy. See, I'm so lazy that I hate coming up with solutions for my own problems. It's more fun when other people problem-solve for me. Sometimes, I even enjoy making problems on purpose just to see other people do something. Besides, I'm not that bright. I'm horrible at coming up with stuff to do...

...so I figured, "How about we create this big bungalow of waste, and tell society to imagine a purpose for it?" It's a top-down approach basically, kind of like splattering ink on a bunch of Rorschach cards, and then having society see things in it. The self-fulfilling prophecy will convince society that I'm a genius, and it will put society's imaginations to work, figuring out a way to occupy itself.

Besides, I don't like society much anyway. It's full of idiots who refuse to think for themselves. By creating big government, society will finally have to think, and I'll have this massive castle to take refuge in in case society decides to get lazy and not put its brains to work. On top of that, if society refuses to think, it will have to deal with unemployment and inflation, and I'll just keep pumping up the money supply until someone, somewhere bites. It's not like I care about society cohering anyway when society doesn't care to cohere among its own...

...so yea, that's the argument for big government. Society is filled with idiots, so in order to get people to think for themselves, I'll create this big pile of waste just so society has to think, or it'll sink like the passengers on the bottom of the Titanic.

That's the other good thing about big government - if society screws up by insisting on being lazy, I can simply take a lifeboat and sail away somewhere else that's not sinking. Call it foreign aid if you will.

I think the only thing your offering to debate here is your own understanding of politics. Seeing as making things personal is against forum rules... you should probably delete it.

Well, the problem is this.

The Chinese imperial bureaucracy was a great system, right up until it was a crappy outdated system.

And thats like humanities all time high score for effective, functioning big government.

Seriously guys? We're validating a sarcastic and ill-researched stab at the development of all western government? The OP isn't even remotely respectful to civil debate.

Some people seem happy to debate just about anything, but Aaron is right. The premise of this thread does not warrant serious response.

Modern conservatism by and large relies on rationalism rather than empiricism to convey political ideas, hence why so many threads distributed across the internet follow this thread's vapid rhetoric, especially in regards to economics where most evidence favors reasonable government involvement instead of "absence."

Laziness, freedom, and slavery become the popular buzz-words instead of economic necessity, positive trends, etc.
