The Nazis were making synthetic oil back in the 30s and 40s. So a definite possibility.

Nah, oil will eventually be replaced. We're only at the beginning stages of really finding something else. Give it some time. We've only been REALLY trying things like feasible car batteries and such for a couple of decades. While that's a long time in a single person's life, in the scheme of civilizations, it's a flash.

I'm glad to see this as energy is only one reason we need oil. I am actually concerned that even if we find an alternative energy that the loss of oil will make it terribly difficult to implement. Petrochemicals are used to make just about everything around us.

once cold fusion makes net energy oil is pretty much done for for everything other than plastics.
