having worked an actual homicide case now I am every much opposed to the death penalty.

I've always said I'm on the fence about the DP but if it were to end tomorrow I wouldn't miss it.
What really burns me is how many innocent people we've put to death, especially in places like Texas. That is beyond FUBAR. That alone is reason enough to get rid of it.

I still think the DP should be reserved for certain situations but I'm not opposed to eliminating it and definitely agree with halting it in certain states where it's been used disproportionately.
The OP situation is also rather disgusting. I don't weep for the guy for what he did, but the state should not be doing that, either.
