Instead of bureaucratic means of handing out welfare, what would be the pros and cons of a guaranteed basic income, in which no matter what, you're guaranteed a basic income in which you can use to live on, and can top up in employment, however this means you don't get any pension, or any welfare whatsoever, it's all restructured for you to receive just this basic income.

Unaffordable currently. It's laughable to talk about a basic income when we can't even guarantee basic healthcare. It wouldn't be a very effective system anyway. No doubt millions of americans would blow their monthly allowance on smack or air jordans and end up homeless or not feeding their kids. Then what? Give them more services? Let them suffer and even perish for their own stupidity? Unfortunately most people can't even be trusted with a regular allowance. And as I said, we can't afford it anyway.

The problem with a guaranteed income is.... who's going to pay for that? It has to come from somewhere. So it'll drive up the cost of services and products for us all. Including THOSE persons getting the 'guaranteed' income. So then, they'll need to raise the 'guaranteed' income again, so they can compete again.
The other problem is if it's a govt. program, then that money is being 'extorted' from the productive and innocent classes with the threat of violence and at the point of a gun!

Hell. Without ever having to worry about money I'd have studied history of film or something in college and kicked back my whole life. Or maybe found some like minded people and lived in a constant state of hedonistic ecstasy.
