It seems to me they wanted an excuse to deny Britain a gold medal in cycling because of Team GB's almost universal success in the sport, so instead of imploring the other teams to drag themselves up to Britain's high standard, they resort to disqualifying or otherwise eliminating British Olympians and Paralympians instead. Pathetic...

maybe i misread the article but didn't someone else from the U.K. take Gold anyway?

Yeah it's just one of those things that happens sometimes in sport. I don't see why there would be any sinister at play, the other nations have caught up with GB&NI in the Paralympics now so there wouldn't be any need for it.

I understand he is upset. If I were an athlete, I would be too. But, he made a false start, got himself disqualified, and that's that. Tough luck, for sure, but those are the breaks.

He held his hand up to the false start at the beginning. It is usually standard practice to allow athletes to have one false start before they are disqualified. Not in this case however...

They should have played the Monty Python theme song everytime the UK won a medal.
