I agree. I really don't get the opposition to it. The pipeline will make dirty oil available? Isn't that the point of a pipeline?

yes, it's that 'argument' mainly, because it will lengthen our usage of petroleum (as if not building it stops it, that's the hilarious thing) and it's because pipes might leak. best ship by train because those never have accidents and blow up a small town or anything like that

The oil is going to be used regardless. The pipeline just makes it easier to transport the stuff. Its actually a carbon savings, since you avoid burning the fuel to transport the oil.
Opposition to the pipeline on the basis of "oil is evil" is retard behavior. There are valid environmental concerns, but those are far more specific and localized and still don't negate the advantages.

I'm pretty ambivalent on the keystone pipeline. There is no way we could stop using petroleum to generate power though, we could stop using coal but oil is going to be with us for the next 100 years at least, might as well build a pipeline to transport it more efficiently.

I wonder how much the railroad lobby gave to certain Congressmen, campaign to re-elect Obama, the DNC, etc.?

It's because of all of the land they have to steal for the pipeline. Hot potato for an upcoming political showdown.
