Sigh. How long has this been going on now? Since 1947 right?

I don't know if yours is the answer but clearly nothing has worked to-date.

The best description I've ever heard of why this never gets resolved is that both sides are can't let go of their sense of being the victims in all this.

As they continue to victimize each other.

I've always been a fan of giving the West Bank sans settlements back to Jordan. Then at least Israel has somebody to work with.

As to Partition, it's a hard thing. We had lots of it after WW2 and people mostly adjusted. It should be noted that most of the borders being fought over in this world in the last 70 years were created after WW1.

You could create a homeland for Egypt's Christians in Gaza and the Sinai. The religious minorities of Lebanon and Syria could create a "greater Syria" along the coast going a bit inland. The Sunnis get a chunk of Syria a chunk of Iraq and the rest of Egypt and all of Jordan.

I'm tellin ya the more this becomes a mess the more so much of it really does seem to stem from WW I.

Aren't people saying we should break up Iraq into three pieces? Seems like we'd just have Israel 2.0 in the end.

Israel deliberately ended that relative stability, and have been playing the long game ever since. It is only a matter of time. The Palestinian state will never be stable or self-sufficient, due to the placement of Jewish settlements, so the ideal solution is to end it once and for all, followed by reparations for those removed and their integration into surrounding countries.
