If there was a significant sum guaranteed for false imprisonment, you'd think someone would find a way to game it. I'd be willing to do some time for the right number of millions.
5 million a year sounds appropriate to me.

its got to be enough to break the habit of LE taking shortcuts instead of doing their job correctly

another action that could be taken would be to immediately fire everyone involved in the conviction
this would probably be the most effective measure

we should let juries determine the amount but the state would be scared to let them.

It's amazing what kind of impact DNA testing has had on the reversal of these cases. Every case I've heard about in Texas in the last couple of years were all due to new DNA testing. It's the only "polygraph" that actually works.

polygraph testing is utter nonsense that has no scientific credibility whatsoever
it's use is one of the reasons for the prevalence of wrongful convictions
the state is well aware of this fact yet LE persists in this sort of nonsense to build it's cases
