ISIS simply doesn't have the capability to attack the US. However according to US officials this new group is even worse than ISIS, who was even worse than AQ.

Does anyone buy the existence of this group? They seem to have just popped into existence when an actual threat to the US due to ISIS failed to materialize.

Instead of goat herders with AKs this group seems to be more like a global corporation of terror. Kind of like a James Bond villain or something really.

As far as I can tell, these guys are the corporate headhunters of the jihadist world. They aren't fighting in Syria, they are just recruiting Westerners and others who can help them strike US/Europe. ISIS is cooperating with them fully, so I imagine this is their response to our intervention in Iraq/Syria.

It's hard to tell if this strategy will be effective or not. Western intelligence agencies are ALL OVER people who travel to Syria and Iraq to fight. As we speak, the Canadian government is stripping people of citizenship if they go over there to fight - a truly horrible infringement upon civil liberties, although undoubtedly it makes things a bit safer for Canadians in the short-term. Britain and the US are also stripping passports, so I'm not sure how much of a threat these guys can really be.

meh it seems more like ISIS wasn't a credible enough of a threat to justify intervention so they had to enhance the story a bit before we started bombing the crap out of Iraq and Syria.

You must always be developing new markets in case there is a downturn in your domestic market.

Honestly, most of this stuff is just fear mongering, in order to increase budgets/power for counter-terrorism.

I don't doubt that there are terrorists trying to kill people in the West, it's just that they are really bad at it, and therefore not much of a threat. There are far more important issues that the money could be spent on, where the amount of lifes saved per dollar would be orders of magnitude higher.

the situation in the middle east is apparently serious enough to form a coalition between the US, the gulf states, russia, china, and europe.

clearly someone thinks it's very serious.
