I would be very much in favor of an end to for-profit prisons and other things like civil forfeitures. Giving law enforcement a cash incentive to lock up more people/seize more property is a horrible idea, that will obviously cause problems.
For example, society obviously needs to re-habilitate prisoners to reduce crime, but what incentive does a for-profit prison have to do this ? They make only make money when people go to prison.
And it gets even worse when you consider the impact on legislation, since the people who make money of crime hire pressure politicians to keep the money coming, which results in things like the war on drugs and mandatory sentencing laws.

Yeah, just that first part would be a huge improvement.
Make it happen Non. That is a issue you could actually get traction with.

Probably already enough money involved to utterly prevent something like this from happening. Once the money is flowing, its already too late. Nice thought, though.

I'm all for "for-profit" prison system. Anything that gets us closer to The Running Man...the better!
