The "guns" everyone refers to are the scary-looking one incorrectly dubbed "assault weapons".

and yes, many in authority want to re-instate the assault weapons ban.

This will always be the message: Obama is trying to take your guns away. That accomplishes two things: providing alleged moral cover for opposing any further laws (because they're plots! The slippery slope!) and it drives sales up.

The sales part being the key bonus.

Time for liberals to give up on the gun issue. There is no plan to actually achieve anything, just talk about it but all that's really happening is the left throwing away political capital and goodwill to beat their chests about this highly divisive issue. Focus on inequality and strengthening the middle class rather than cutting yourself off at the knees with this gun shit.

I don't get the cartoon. Many progressives do want to disarm private citizens and make private businesses participate in gay marriage. It's crazy to believe in real stuff?
