Another crash under a Republican President/Congress will lead to irrevocable electoral losses. Republican's are only gaining momentum now because people are slowly getting back what they lost and have the time to care/stress more over immigrants and the debt/deficit. Also a benefit to them: how shitty Obama is at promoting his accomplishments.
If they want to play with fire let them, they're only dooming their own party. The Tea Party already abhors the establishment - if Republicans look at their current landscape and believe they're in for a windfall they're going to bite the dust.

Don't understand the outrage. The part of the law that this "repeals" has only been on the books since 2010, and it hasn't been enforced yet. In other words, banks continue doing what they're doing right now, when we're humming along quite nicely.

I'm not sure the public equates Wall St. with the GOP.
While they certainly should (although the Dems are hardly untainted), the GOP has been thwarting every regulatory attempt to protect us from Wall St. since 2008 yet they've suffered no blowback from this.
Either we have a bizarre case of Stockholm Syndrome in this country or, more realistically, 95% of the population doesn't even know this is happening. I'm thinking the latter because where do we even read things like this? Yeah, in things like Mother Jones magazine. Or Matt Taibbi. Not exactly household names.
