Pretty remarkable system. Make debtors of as many people as possible, then make debt a jailable offense. You're right to point out that this isn't really a Texas thing but rather a reflection of national trends.

Here in the cornfields, not paying the water bill can get your driver license suspended + water shutoff. 
The hardest part of doing nothing is knowing when your done.

People are going to jail for writing bad checks. Not being in debt. They write a check to a loan place, then that check bounces.
Are you saying that we should allow people to write bad checks and the only way that the business can recoup their money is to spend thousands of dollars to hire a lawyer and sue?
