Yes, this is what happens when you buy into a condo with an HOA. It always pays to have a real estate lawyer look over all paperwork and advise you before signing on the dotted line. Hopefully, they have learned a valuable lesson from this.

This is what happens when special interest groups influence legislators/legislation. The legislature works for them and not the consumers... their constituents.

This stuff didn't happen overnight. They were buying up units to get to the 80% ownership. READ what you sign. I don't know real estate law, so I pay someone who does when I make a real estate purchase. Your home is going to be your most expensive purchase, isn't it worth a couple hundred dollars to protect yourself? I opted not to purchase a property because the covenants were so severe that my attorney said it was a really bad idea to give an HOA that much power.
