Oldish news, but apparently over the last few years it's become kinda a fad for Narcos to sacrifice people to this charming girl:
I remember thinking back to when small pyramids of human heads starting showing up in Mexico that it reminded me of something, oh yeah:
my reaction was "huh...the old gods are back", that is to say that it seems like the narcos were alluding to Mexico's bloody religious past. I wonder though, as the cult of Santa Muerte spreads how much of it is gimick, how much is how, and how much is genuine belief. It's hard to tell how common "human sacrifice" in down there because of sensationalism, how brutal the narco murders are, and how much superstition and myth are mixed up with the sub-culture. Any who, much like the measles, check off another terrible thing that we thought we'd be rid of by the 21st century that's still around. Makes me miss the 90s:

side note: interesting that ISIS gets so much more play when there's just as much brutality so close to home.
