i'm sure this is a subtle way of telling the US china has similar feelings towards the south china sea as russia has towards ukraine

i don't see how our interests have gotten larger since the end of the coldwar. areas we care about enough to devote political capital to seem to have shrunk tbh. sounds more like wishful thinking on his part.
