i don't see it as any different than coercing a minor in to having sex with you or any other kind of heinous act of coercion. just because someone is suicidal or mentally ill doesn't mean suicide is the inevitable outcome. pushing someone to that outcome should absolutely be a crime.

i mean, there'd be an investigation first i assume if there was any reasonable suspicion that someone coerced them in to doing it. i don't know if going "kill yourself" once on the internet is enough to prove you set someone over the edge.

As to this case, it's a horrible tragedy but I'm hesitant to say manslaughter charges are warranted. Not helping him is horrible, and she will have to carry that forever, but as ex said, it's going to be very tough to get to the bottom of how this really went down. I think it's very probable she didn't take him seriously and told him what she did thinking he wouldn't do it. Again, she'll have to carry that forever, but should we be charging people with manslaughter for not offering the proper support before someone takes their own life?
