It occurs to me that there is only one reason why I am against mandatory voting.

Corruption.

Lobbying makes our political system, and the candidates it produces, .... trash.

Being forced to vote for someone who is financially obligated to a private interest(s), is a pathetic scenario.

Otherwise, i believe mandatory voting would be commonsense, and essential to the political education of citizens.

Thoughts for and against? The reason I bring it up is that it is universally understood, among Americans and the rest of the globe, that Americans are in a pretty scary state with regards to the political intelligence of the average American.

I usually vote on all occasions, but picking the lessor of two evils is getting a bit old.

Calling a voter dumb because they voted for something or somebody you consider unworthy and then stripping them of their right to vote because of it will lead itself unto greater corruption. It is an untenable proposition that lays bare the general ignorance of the electorate. So we grind along.

This thread is meaningless.

people don't vote because they know the system is shit, making it mandatory to vote doesn't change that aspect at all

Compulsory = freedom
