Compulsory Voting

It occurs to me that there is only one reason why I am against mandatory voting.
Corruption.
Lobbying makes our political system, and the candidates it produces, .... trash.
Being forced to vote for someone who is financially obligated to a private interest(s), is a pathetic scenario.
Otherwise, i believe mandatory voting would be commonsense, and essential to the political education of citizens.
Thoughts for and against? The reason I bring it up is that it is universally understood, among Americans and the rest of the globe, that Americans are in a pretty scary state with regards to the political intelligence of the average American.
