Why do conservatives need to exist?

What good does their existence bring to our planet?
Racism, sexism, homophobia, environment degradation, capitalism, etc. These things are destroying humanity and our planet! If we are serious about sustainability, surely we must get rid of those that are against change, right? I don't have anything good to say about conservatives. I wish I did.

In general it is a good idea to have a stabilizing force in society, to avoid that changes occur to suddenly or without proper planning. In an ideal world that would be the role of conservatives.
