Well, for childhood obesity I absolutely blame video games and the Internet.
When I was a kid (70s), you couldn't get us IN the house in the summer, we even had to be herded in for dinner--after which we'd go right back out.
Now, kids are parked in front of VG consoles all day or surfing the net and you can't get them OUT of the house.
As for fast food, back then you had like three choices basically: McD's, Burger King and maybe KFC. Now there's like 20 different choices in any town--all loaded with calories, sodium and fat (not to mention carbs). And they're cheap.
What's totally shocking to me is the rate at which so many Americans are becoming diabetic due to their diet. You'd think there'd be a national movement to treat this epidemic--and it is an epidemic--but like with all things in our "democracy" the lobbies who have an interest in maintaining the status quo simply make sure enough cash goes to our leaders so that it is either denied or never addressed.
