Adultery simply means extramarital sex that is objectionable on moral, legal or religious grounds. Having sex with a prostitute while married, without the consent of your partner, is unquestionably adultery. Also consider that most vows call for monogamy or at least honesty, and breaking your vows to have sex is certainly objectionable on moral grounds.

Looks like Japan is attempting to be the adults of the western world and actually assert the rather common sense fact that personal insecurities and religion notwithstanding, sex in and of it's self doesn't constitute unfaithfulness.
Not surprised that an asian culture is the one dragging us forward.
