I don't think anybody wants to be fat. As a whole our diet is a lot worse than it was. Households have less time to cook and shop for good whole food and there is a plethora of tasty bad for you options out there all formulated to keep you hungry and eating. The giant food processors are IMO the new tobacco companies with the same motivations as the tobacco companies of old. How do get people hooked on our product and buying more and more of it. They've figured it out.

I agree, being fat isn't like being gay or black. But spending time making fun of fat people online is far, far more pathetic of a choice than being fat.

I would be perfectly happy if everyone who contributed to that subreddit died in a fire.

They are right through, the entire norm has shifted to where being overweight is not just tolerated, it's damn near celebrated. Ducking reminder, 6 ft 180 lbs is about the peak BMI for a person of healthy weight. Anything more is f**k overweight. I was about 5 pounds less than that size for most of college and I was a ducking SMALL at some clothing stores.

The entire culture is warped. The "plus" size models they keep promoting are morbidly obese, not plus anything. Obviously I have better shit to do than hang out with comrades friends spamming pictures of whales on reddit, but it truly is disturbing how our frame of reference regarding weight has become unhealthy. you aren't curvy or cute, you are ducking obese. You aren't jacked bro, you are f**k obese. The longer we as a society pretend this is acceptable or normal behavior for a majority of the population the sicker we will be.

The problem is most people are simply gluttonous f**k who eat too much. Actually I have no issue with this, do whatever the f**k you want it's your body your right. But you aren't going to shift the norm to where your gluttony and lack of exercise, your unhealthy lifestyle, is something to be lauded or emulated. These people have a disease borne of their own negligence and it's anything but beautiful, it's a literal cancer they are trying to pass off as a lifestyle.

He who cannot hear the soothing babble of the brook without longing for the soda fountain; cannot enjoy dinner at a friend's home without scornfully remarking on the frugality of his table and the economy of his portions; has no curiousity in foreign lands but for the variety of their spices, may not be dead but neither is he truly alive to partake in the common experiences of mankind.

I think part of the problem here is that "fat" is subjective up to a point. The health implications also don't kick in at a fixed visual point.

The other part is that these people weren't just discussing it or having a different viewpoint, they were using reddit to organize towards harassing behavior (actually cyber-stalking and threatening people).

Seems like reddit drew a line and it was a pretty good line. Use the forum to say what you want, but step beyond speech in an unethical manner and reddit will cease to support your community with a forum.
