so the oscar nominations are in and people are complaining of course. complaining that black people aren't nominated
the oscars nomination process is voting from 6000 members, overwhelmingly white men, but i fail to see why affirmative action should force black nominations every year. i haven't seen that many films, but why is it presumed that there has to be a black nominee who is superior to any of the 5 nominees chosen?
perhaps the academy should change who its members are, but that's up to them. clearly actors and people value the opinions of the current membership because we put so much into academy awards. so if they just let anyone into the academy doesn't it just become like the cheap version of golden globes? and if we start choosing people based on something as irrelevant for their acting as race as opposed to the actual performance aren't we making a farce of the awards?
