so the oscar nominations are in and people are complaining of course. complaining that black people aren't nominated

the oscars nomination process is voting from 6000 members, overwhelmingly white men, but i fail to see why affirmative action should force black nominations every year. i haven't seen that many films, but why is it presumed that there has to be a black nominee who is superior to any of the 5 nominees chosen?

perhaps the academy should change who its members are, but that's up to them. clearly actors and people value the opinions of the current membership because we put so much into academy awards. so if they just let anyone into the academy doesn't it just become like the cheap version of golden globes? and if we start choosing people based on something as irrelevant for their acting as race as opposed to the actual performance aren't we making a farce of the awards?

Why would someone want to win an award if they can't be sure it wasn't just someone checking off a box on a human resources form? I know, racism, but handing out awards on the basis of race is just as f**k up as withholding them on the basis of race. I guess we'll manage to reduce the Oscars to the level of the Hugos before too long.

The golden globes are actually just stupid. Its less than a hundred people, all foreign, and they think anything with a joke counts as a comedy. The Razzies have more credibility to me.

Honestly, George Miller deserves the win for Best Director. He made a tremendous movie with old school methods. Movies that were made with actual props and humans should be rewarded, as opposed to cheap shit whipped up on a graphics workstation.

I think Galt it has more to do with the NWA movie getting pretty much robbed even though it was a critical and popular hit. I agree nominating on--let's call it what it is--quota system helps nothing.

That said, I'm surprised Ex Machina and Sicario didn't do better. My two favorites, especially the former, which was pretty mind-blowing.

That said after that said, does anybody even watch the Oscars any more, or care?

And yes it is odd that Leo has still to win after so many great roles.

it's laughable to me that The Martian is nominated for anything, much less Damon nominated for BEst Actor.
