so i know i made this thread about the attacks but there's of course american politics to discuss around it too...

donald trump just yesterday i think was calling for the US to reevaulate it's place in NATO, that it is too expensive.

a defensive alliance with liberal democracies around the world makes a lot of sense, and the pax americana has been amazingly successful, even though, yes, america is the one paying for it. and yeah, there's terrorism, and yeah, we can't end it. but we can help keep the western world safer than what it would be without our help.

it's bizarre. trump wants to waterboard the suspected terrorists and their families and their suspected family members, even if it didn't do anything to get him intelligence but rather as vengence. and on the other side of his mouth he'll say we need to pull out of NATO.

so anyway, he said that yesterday. and now there's a country on lockdown from terror again, he'll say the exact opposite yet again, that we need to help them and we need to make goats anally rape all the terrorists or some shit like that. is there any core to the guy?

Nothing will come of this, in terms of meaningful action. France talked real big and bad after the Paris attacks...but aside from a few ineffectual air strikes, nothing happened. If France won't even do anything, why would Belgium?

Is there any core? No. He was using this this morning as backup for his Muslim ban.

Here's what nobody's reporting: the problem with places like Brussels (that I've read) is they have a huge assimilation problem with Sunni Muslims--same as Paris. To some extent Britain. So if that is what's driving jihadists for generations to come, why the f*** would you, as leader of the one country in the world where assimilation has not been a problem (HELLO, DEARBORN, MI), then set that one positive on fire by treating all Muslims as terrorists, as Trump does? He's going to CREATE more jihadists, not stop them. It is beyond idiocy.

That said, and this is NOT to take away from the Belgian people's shock and horror--we all know what 9/11 was like for us--but to address the American hysterica, especially from the right wing: just for example, 14 people have been shot in Chicago just since yesterday morning. Why is it that when things like that go on, it's business as usual in America--but if 30 people die in Europe because of terrorists, why, everybody loses their minds?

I'm not saying you can't be concerned about both--I'm saying we're only concerned about one. Trump wants to ban all Muslims for things like Belgium but I've never heard them want to ban or do anything after things like Sandy Hook.

If the shooters in California are a husband and wife pair of losers--but Muslims--why, even more evidence we need to seal those borders!

But when the latest yahoo shoots up a school or workplace or we lead the world in homicides--there are no calls to do anything.
