the court ruled 4-2 against the prosecutors. those same people have argued that 2 (not 4, but 2) of the judges should have recused themselves from saying that the campaign finance laws in wisconsin are vague and unconstitutional because they were reelected, basically. they didn't recuse themselves because the groups that supported them had no reason to think they would be brought to court, so they werent doing it to buy themselves out of jail. they were doing it to get unamerican laws thrown out -- like laws about campaign finance reform. basically what you suggest is the laws surrounding finance in election can never be overturned unless the judges no longer stand for reelection

We should really just emulate the Brits on this topic. Strict overall spending limits on each party, (which negates the need for contribution limits, really) and campaigns measured in weeks. Over here, Ted Cruz announced his candidacy the better part of 2 years before Election Day. And long before that were the exploratory committees and the start of fundraising. 600 f**k days? A couple billion dollars? For real? Britain has also banned paid TV and radio political ads.

To hell with the American election system. Are we better informed voters because of our big stupid circus of an election? Of course not. We just get to listen to the candidates muckrake each other for an interminable duration until we'd be willing to bite off a fingernail and mark up a ballot in our own blood just to make it f**k stoooop.

Its a positive feedback loop. There is just a spectacular amount of money to change hands at so many different levels...could we actually end this hilariousness if we wanted to? More money every year...more money to be made all over the media, too many stakeholders stirring the pot. Not much that's more powerful than a number with nine zeroes behind it.
