In regards to men, I just got done reading Hillbilly Elegy and quite frankly I just don't know what the solutions are to our cultural and socioeconomic problems. Tocqueville was right:
"I see an innumerable crowd of like and equal men who revolve on themselves without repose, procuring the small and vulgar pleasures with which they fill their souls. Each of them, withdrawn and apart, is like a stranger to the destiny of all the others: his children and his particular friends form the whole human species for him; as for dwelling with his fellow citizens, he is beside them, but he does not see them; he touches them and does not feel them; he exists only in himself and for himself alone."
I don't see a carrot that will instill a sense of urgency and desire to be educated and better oneself and their family (if they have one).

Wage gap is a little bit of a myth (or at least misleadingly portrayed). Like us all, women earn a good salary when they are motivated to do so. The women who eschew traditional tracks and focus on their careers do just fine as he article notes. The wage gap for traditional women is there because they are secretaries and hostesses and social workers and traditionally female dominated low paying jobs.
Agree with ex on restructuring how we view learning. Kids should learn to teach themselves and develop an honest passion for learning.
Of course, none of this matters if parents are disengaged or negative influences. Schools cannot fix cultural problems. You can dump as much cash into majority minority schools and employ the most revolutionary educational techniques as you want and they will still be f**k up six ways from Sunday because the kids are f**k up.

Nailed it. The advent of assortive mating, which will only increase, and designer babies means this is probably one of the last generations in America in which you can really change your family's fortunes. From here on your class is likely very set and immovable.
Which is sad but the important thing to keep in mind is you better make it
