here's the decision
basically there no longer needs to be a physical presence in the state in order to compel a company to be subject to state and local taxes. like, internet purchases, that's what this is about.
so basically the supreme court just increased all of our taxes

separate shit man and really has nothing to do with it. regardless of "that awesome tax break", this would exist. without that awesome tax break it would f**k us harder
what this means: my purchases on steam which don't even provide for anything physical are gonna get taxes f**k applied. because thank you state, you did so much in getting me that f**k product

No sales tax here.
But doesn't it make sense that you would be taxed for a purchase within your own State regardless of where the product was made?

An argument can be made about physical goods being shipped (state providing for infrastructure), but not digital ones
Also it's pretty onerous because there's so many local taxes on shit

But isn't what defines the tax the point of sale? Is the argument that wherever Valve is physically located should determine the sales tax rate for Steam purchases, even if the customer is maybe thousands of miles away? If that were the case online sellers could just put their HQ's in a no sales tax state and circumvent sales taxes all over the country. Honestly, I can see why local businesses are pissed about people dodging sales tax online, and I get why states don't like losing the revenue. People pissed about losing their loophole notwithstanding.

if you're purchasing something from another place, that's the point of sale, where they are selling it from, not where you happen to be when you call in a purchase. When Ive bought shit from Europe I had to pay vat.
