I am infuriated at Trump's decision to role back methane release regulation just to give his Big Energy buddies a reach around.

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — The Trump administration on Tuesday rolled back an Obama-era rule that forced energy companies to capture methane — a key contributor to climate change that’s released in huge amounts during drilling on U.S. and tribal lands.

A replacement rule from the Interior Department rescinds mandates for companies to reduce gas pollution, which Trump administration officials say already is required by some states.

The change could save companies as much as $2 billion in compliance costs over the next decade.

i know you're trying to mock but methane is a massive contributor to short term temperature increases. methane only stays in the atmosphere for about 9 years before it is broken down, but in that time it's like 100x more potent than CO2. rice farming, ruminants, and oil and gas production each release 4/5ths of methane into the atmosphere each year as wetlands. termites and oceans release a bit more but that's the entirety of natural sources. atmospheric methane has risen from 722ppb to 1800ppb since the advent of industry. this is certainly unnatural.

i think the problem is that some people think it's fine to spit gum out onto the sidewalk or throw trash out of their window of their car. they don't see pollution for what it is, harmful to everyone. i always thought these people had brain damage or were chinese or something, but perhaps they just had bad parents that were over indulgent and let their kids do such things, like they were raised by animals and never actually disciplined. which is it, jimmy
