Appropriately named, the First Step Act passed the Senate 87-12. while it is a step in the right direction it's only the first step. the main reason for this is that almost everyone in prison is in state prison, not federal prison, and this applies only to those in federal prison

that said, it's nice to see bipartisan effort on something that is a net good, and get more people on early release through use of halfway houses ,and eliminating mandatory sentencing for non-violent offenders

It's pretty hilarious that one of Trump's larger wins here (courtesy of Kushner) will be to the benefit of criminals.
