I ran into this on my journey through ballotpedia today, looking at all the state's major initiatives.
The dynamics in this proposition are melting my mind right now. It is polling 61 percent IN FAVOR of labeling foods.... with ONE financial backer, (mercola) over a million dollars... meanwhile Monsanto is throwing down to the tune of 7 MILLION DOLLARS to shut this bill down. Right behind it is basically the most impressive list of thug corporations I have ever seen lined up against a single bill.
I have always been against GMO foods, solely for the reason that not labeling them has given corporations a total free pass to bringing these products to market. No one 5 years ago, and most still now who are uneducated about GMO foods would choose a tomato that said "Genetically modified" over one that didn't. From a business standpoint it pisses me off that they completely went around the free market. I've only recently started experimenting with non gmo foods to see if they work better with my digestion etc etc....
Anyway, outside of the Colorado marijuana legalization, which at this point is almost a guaranteed supreme court battle on deck.... this is the most impressive ballot measure in the country.
