Every time we make a thread about baby boomers it gets locked cause people are "bashing" them. One, this isn't against any rules and it definitely isn't a personal attack to discuss a generation as a whole. Two, it seems like millennials are fair game around here so why not boomers as well?

Replace boomers with "blacks."

There is a whole thread about why the mentally ill should be murdered... and talking about boomers is a punishable offense?

Yes that's true, punishable offense was a bit dramatic.

Point is, its apparently fine to call for the murder of the mentally ill, regardless of individual circumstances, or even the presence of wrong-doing... but unacceptable to "generalize" about boomers or assign certain traits to that generation.

I guess what I'm saying is I think the staff are trying to discourage broad debasing of a demographic. It ain't cool to do it by race, gender, sexual orientation, etc. I don't see how it's cool to do it by generation.

I'm sure a thread that discusses the consequences of the baby boomers (i.e. the increasing burden of the welfare state), would be acceptable. But boomer conversations seem to end up with someone saying, "Gawd, boomers are teh worst generation evar," in one form or another.

I think some of it is past history.. Some of the boomers suck threads in th past(at PP too) got really nasty. So I think now the Mods don't want the threads to get out of hand.

Personally I wasn't offended, so I never reported any post or thread.. It's only a forum, it's not that big of a deal, IMO..To my face, yeah I'd be pissed and offended and do something about it.. But here? Nah..

Anyway maybe others were offended...Also rule-wise some of the comments about wishing for a whole demographic to die might be going too far..

Besides, people are individuals. To lump them together and paint them all a certain color is just wrong.
