Obama should put gun reform back on the agenda.

Now would be good timing. The base is more pissed off than ever and they still haven't forgotten about sandy hook. It would also help deflect from a whole lot of the messy issues surrounding the Zimmerman trial. Does anyone think that if Zimmerman wasn't armed, either he or Trayvon would have died that night? I don't, and I bet most people think likewise.

Politically, it's a great opportunity to do something that would truly help prevent things like this from happening. It would push forth a cause that all liberals would be happy to rally around and declare a major victory for Obama. it would be keeping a promise to sandy hook that they have not been forgotten, and letting the black community know Trayvon losing his life ultimately helped save many more.

He could force the republicans hand between this and immigration. But I'm not confident in Obama's ability to seize a moment like this.

If they couldn't pass gun reform back when they had an incredible tragedy to exploit then they certainly can't pass it now. The midterm elections are right around the corner and a number of red state Democrats will be facing tough opposition. American distrust in government has spiked thanks to the Snowden leaks and IRS debacle, which strengthens the pro-gun crowd's argument that government is not a replacement. Zimmerman? That was all media hype, it won't change any opinions.

They're going to use gun reform to hurt the GOP in the midterm and 2016 elections. Initial indications have shown it isn't so good as the GOP and NRA once hoped.

There's a goof chance the GOP may pick up the Senate in 2014 just by the way things will work out that year due to who and where the seats are, but come 2016 they will get obliterated and then there might be a chance for some gun reform.

lol. Most republicans are on board with most of the democrat gun reform proposals. It's only the politicians who are bought by the NRA that won't do it (yes, some are Dems).

This can't hurt dems if even the republicans agree with their stance.

The problem with gun control legislation is it doesn't win you any votes. Break even at best, more than likely the party pushing such legislation will lose votes. This is IMO why we won't see another push for gun control legislation.
