Anecdote that I learned yesterday.
Friend of mine was skiing in Canada (she is American, but recently moved to Canada because of her husband's work). While skiing, she blew her knee out. She went to have it checked out at the local hospital, and was told . . .
SHE WOULD HAVE TO WAIT 6 MONTHS FOR AN MRI!
No, not wait for treatment. Not wait for surgery. She would have to wait 6 months for them to even diagnose what was wrong with it. Until then, she is to wear an immobilizer on her leg to keep it straight and weight off her knee.
Needless to say, she's on her way back to her home here in the states to seek diagnoses and treatment.
Isn't universal healthcare grand?

The difference being that what determines it is nationality, not ability to pay. Why the hell would we prioritize people from a different country?
