The Palestinians could end all rocket attacks for the next decade, it won't stop the Israelites from demolishing their homes and building settler cities atop the rubble. It won't end the brutal occupation of their cities and lands, nor would it make Israel relinquish control of Palestinian borders, air space, ports, etc. Israel will still fly drones over their heads and launch midnight commando raids at its leisure. I think it is extremely wrong-headed to claim neutrality and then expect a truly humiliated and devastated people from lashing out at the country assailing them.
At some point, we have to acknowledge the fact that a modern democratic state, and the people within it, should be expected to behave better than a place like Gaza or the West Bank. Specifically because they are that much more powerful, educated, well-fed and safe, Israel has a special obligation to lead the way in settling this conflict. I'm glad they are keeping casualties to a "minimum," whatever that means.Though no amount of roof-knocking is going to change the fact that this campaign, like all the ones before it, is a classic example of collective reprisal. Considered a war crime for good reason. Galt claims they have bombed 440+ targets... that is astounding, considering that Gaza is half the geographic size of Toronto.
Israel is destroying a ghetto of it's own creation, and then claiming it is okay because they are annexing the place slowly and with all due regard for civilian casualties. When the Palestinians act like poor, oppressed people, doing irrational things for bad reasons, Israel just kills some baddies* and ammo caches** and claims to have made it safer for Israelites. Then the settlement programs continue, making Palestine even more heated and dangerous... which in turn justifies Israeli intervention and consequent annexation of more land. Ariel Sharon actually writes about this strategy in his autobiography (which I recommend because the man is an evil genius). That kind of strategic thinking is reflected in some of the comments here - the Palestinians should "give up" because of the overwhelming violence they could face. The beauty of it is that if they do give up, Israel will just continue expanding and that'll be that.
